Individual Bowling Methods

Individual Bowling Methods

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

There are several individual bowling methods and each is often favored by a particular kind of player. Bowling techniques are often played according to the condition of the lane and how far it has been oiled.

Young, strong players often favor what is called the Cranker method of bowling, which requires a great deal of strength. The feet reach the foul line well before the ball; usually the ball is at the peak of its back swing. There is little or no foot slide, and the finish of the swing is accomplished more with brute force than anything. The ball is rolled in a ‘scenic’ swing, coming in hard and fast to the pins. The ball is much harder to control and may create spectacular splits in the pins.

The Stroker uses a more classical move with his sliding foot stopping just as the ball reaches the foul line. This creates the small amount of leverage needed to enable the ball to complete its work without excessive use of force by the player. Smooth and elegant, this classic play will cause less injury and tiredness, and enable the bowler to play consistently well for the duration of the game.

The Spinner will use his fingers to create a spinning effect in the ball as it flies down the lane.

You can see that there's practical value in learning more about Bowling Games. Can you think of ways to apply what's been covered so far?

He must exit his fingers in a circular motion to do this. A fast - spinning ball creates less friction in the lane, but then when it reaches the pins it seems to explode in all directions. Seen more in the east, this move is sometimes referred to and the helicopter / UFO move.

Hooking is rolling the ball so that it extends in a curve before crossing back to end up just where you want it, knocking down those pins. If the hook is too deep, then it will end up in the gutter instead. If it’s done right, it will often knock down all ten pins as it hits on an angle. When the pins are knocked on an angle, they often knock each other down. Hooking is achieved by the position of the hand and how the fingers exit the holes.

Straight is when the ball is simply bowled in a straight line down the center of the lane. A straight ball rarely knocks down all ten pins. This is because pins knocked square on will fall straight and not knock into each other. A ball hit can be adjusted simply by approaching the lane further to the left or right.
I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing--the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.
