What Is A Bowling Handicap

What is a Bowling Handicap

So what is Bowling Games really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about Bowling Games--info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

Handicaps are mostly used in league play and individual leagues usually decide how they are to be formatted. Some are done on the average score of an individual and some done on team averages, but the rules books will explain what is the favored handicap system.

Handicapping is used in many major leagues competitions as it brings each individual and / or each team together in an equitable manner. If there were no handicaps, then those who were not quite as good at playing would have no chance of winning. The American Bowling Congress ( ABC ) is in favor of higher percentages being used to equalize sides properly.

Some handicaps are based on 80 % of 200, but that gives the team with the highest average an unfair advantage. If the handicap is based on 90 % or 100 % then it is possible that either team could win.

Each player has an average score. These averages should be added up to determine the team average.

For instance if Beth’s average was 130 and the handicap was based on 100 % of 200, then 70 is needed to bring her average up to the full 200 mark. That means her handicap will be 70. This should be done for each player on the team, and their handicaps all added together to get the teams handicap.

Have fun while playing the game you love.......

I trust that what you've read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

If the handicap were based on 90 % of 200 ( which is 180 ) then an average of 130 would attract a handicap of 50, as that is the amount needed to bring 130 up to 180.

The number of games needed to establish an average depends on the league’s rules. If a player has no average, or has never played, then a retroactive handicap may be set, based on the player’s first three games of the series and applied to that and the next series. Otherwise they can handicap them from a set figure such as 100 until an average has been set.

Having a handicap makes the better players keep on their toes instead of expecting to win all the time. It also rewards less experienced players for trying by giving them the chance to win over a more experienced player. Otherwise, the more experienced players would win all the time and those who couldn’t play as well would give up, or at least go in to play without much enthusiasm because they would expect to be beaten.

With the playing field leveled by handicapping, there is more excitement in the competition.
If you've picked some pointers about Bowling Games that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won't really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don't use it.
